Wonderful place

This is one of those places that we love to share and it is with heartfelt hope that all who read and travel to Khao Lak are encouraged to spend at least one morning in this wonderful workshop.
A little history, Thaikea was created just after the tsunami that hit the coast of Thailand sweeping, homes, schools, boats and everything in its path. A Swedish carpenter, decided to help build houses, furniture and boats for those families who had lost everything and created this little workshop. Here, volunteers from around the world helped in making everything from wood. From chairs, tables, cabinets , shelves, doors, and all that was needed for reconstruction after the catastrophe.

The raw materials, machinery and infrastructure came from donations. The urgent work of reconstruction after the Tsunami was over, but not the activity on Thaikea.

Khao Lak Thaikea today features a small organization called Fun 4 Kids where they make swings, desks, libraries and anything they need for the schools and orphanages in the area. The raw materials are still coming through donations. Volunteers cut wood, sand, paint and sometimes even design what will then be placed at schools and orphanages the result of their work.

If you want to help, you just have to contact Fun 4 Kids and contact them. Steve is responsible for pick up at the door of your hotel or inn and will be there at about 9 am. From there, you and other volunteers at the workshop will continue to build for a few hours. Then, around 12, the volunteers all gather together and share experiences during lunch. This is a great alternative for a morning when you want to trade a bit of sunshine hours on the beach for a unique experience that will reap unforgettable rewards. This is a great way to do your part to make this a better world.
