Highly recommended

During Tarragona's costal development boom, the Marquis who owned the area of coast and forest surrounding Playa la Mora made the choice to block it off from development so that people could enjoy a piece of truly wild nature near the city. And while the area is enjoyed by thousands of people every year, you still get the feeling of being in the heart of the wilderness. We learned this little piece of history from our guide at TGNautica kayaks as we did the pirate route along the coast. Before launching our kayaks, we had a short safety course on the seashore to learn the proper techniques. We went out for about three hours but had a blast.

Kayak the Tarragona coast

Near Tarragona, there's a great area of coast with a beautiful forest that has escaped the ravages of logging and property development. It's perfect for hiking, but you can also see the crashing waves and crystal-clear Mediterranean water on a kayak (not to mention your daily exercise!) We went kayaking with Arnau of TGNautica and loved the experience. They have all kinds of routes for different ability and tastes, but most trips last around four hours (including the orientation session before you hit the water). It's a great way to get in shape!

Mediterranean adventure

Tarragona isn't just about ancient Romans; it's also about getting outdoors and exploring the beautiful sea and countryside. We chose a kayaking trip with TGNautica at Playa la Mora near the Tamarit Castle. After a brief safety talk, we hit the Mediterranean and saw lots of beautiful coves and beaches surrounded by small caves and forests. We were out for around 3 hours but the time seemed to fly. It was so much fun! It felt like being a kid again, splashing included!
