Promote the fine arts
The first organization to promote the fine arts throughout Texas was founded on April 6, 1911, in honour of Elisabet Ney. Ney was an Austin sculptor who had created her own studio in 1892. The organization began informally in Formosa by Julia Pease, Emma Richardson Cherry, Emma Kyle Burleson, Anna Pennybackerqv, Ella Peyton Dancy Dibrell, Johanna Runge, Oline Sayers, Mary Mitchell, and Anita Miller. It was created to promote and give life to the arts in Texas.
