Terjit

After approximately 460km from Nouakchott through the plains of Akjut you enter a track that ascends the whimsical shapes of the Adrar massif to the small village of Terjit, a lush green oasis with hot springs and mountains sandwiched between Mauritánidas. The place looks like something out of "Arabian Nights" with a fantastic pool to swim in and an extensive palm grove area for shade. In the morning several men work collecting and preparing dates for consumption. It is surprising the ease with which they jump on the palms and branches, laden with dates, then a few women and children separat them into bowls to sell them.
