1 review of Temple of Charity

Mass with cultural charm

This group was founded in 1712 by the order of the Juaninos, along with the first Indian hospital in the city and who were dedicated to the Virgin of Charity. Its facade has peculiar forms, it shows groups of pilasters with curvaceous bodies that look like wood carvings, some critics say that this style was used in Peru during the eighteenth century and that's where it came from. Inside the temple preserves a Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin and another to a Black Christ of Esquipulas, Guatemala. The strangest thing I found out about this place is doing Masses in dialect, if I recall it is at 7am, and I imagine it must be amazing to witness and I will on my next visit.
