Here women run the world

Frida Kahlo, a great advocate of women's causes, deeply loved the town and I discovered so did André Breton. Tehuantepec has a micro-matriarchal society, where man is clearly assigned a secondary role, here women run the world. It has a disused railway line through the market, the village has spectacular buildings and the only true feeling of living in peace, without police, sexism and tourists. This town is also known for embroidery adorning local costumes and can be reached from Tehuantepec to the Pacific coast, via bus or taxi.
