A huge complex of museums
The Tate family is a huge complex of museums dedicated to modern and contemporary art with its four museums: Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. The Tate Modern, close to the famous City of London School, was a huge power plant that has been converted into a museum complex that houses large modern and contemporary works from around the world with courses and presentations, as well as temporary exhibitions. Opened in 2000, this is the most visited modern art gallery in the world and contains hundreds of works by renowned artists on the current scene. To cope with the millions of visitors, the building has been expanded, and a new, modern footbridge over the River Thames, which can carry about 1.8 million visitors, now connects it to the north side of the river.
