An old government structure with artifacts from the Edo Period
The Takayama Jinya is not difficult to find, close to one of the bridges crossing the Miyagawa, the Bashi Naka. Walking from the train station to the south of the district Sanmachi does not take more than 15 minutes. It costs 420 yen. This is an old government structure, the last remains of the Tokugawa shogunate in the city. It is now a National Historic Landmark and has some vestiges of the lifestyle of the Edo Period. From the outside it is nice and well preserved. Inside you have to take your shoes off, since the floor is tatami. It is like a museum with a garden where you can see the old government building rooms and functions of the past.
