A classic old American roadhouse in the Pacific Northwest
For truly old Americana culture and food, head to Tad's Chicken 'n Dumplins on the Sandy River near Troutdale, Oregon, just east of Portland. This historic spot in the scenic Sandy River Gorge lies within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area on the Historic Columbia River Highway.
Tad's is one of the last old American roadhouses on the old highway, dating to the 1920's. The decor is mid-twentieth century wood paneling and the menu is a throwback to the 1940's, with specialties such as Oregon Marionberry cobbler and fat dumplings slathered in gravy with tender stewed chicken. Nothing fancy here.
