A delightful restaurant
A good friend had told us the wonders of this place. The area is delightful, at the border between the East Village and Soho, both very fashionable neighborhoods and hotbeds of new trends. This restaurant was kitsch and had colorful Mexican decor, I felt super identified with the feeling of this restaurant. This is a very cool concept and the decor fascinated me. The place is a converted garage, super fun, bright and spacious, which we found very difficult to find in Manhattan. We came in from wandering around, tripping over New York's small vintage clothing shops, bookshops, and charming cafes full of beautiful people ... When we found Tacombi, we how different it was. I loved it.
It is modern without being pretentious, cheap and delicious, serving tacos (they brought us a small taste) and some bottled juices they labeled themselves. I took one of watermelons and tasted like heaven to me, and I saw that they also had horchata! The other diners were young and beautiful but the atmosphere was very relaxed. And I saw several Mexicans among them, which must be a good sign, right? Finally, the big surprise in the middle of the room, there is a van!. This Volkswagen van (we were told that it was brought from Mexico, was restored and is an active part of the decor. Ingredients are prepared in the kitchen and then assembled in the vehicle, all a hoot!. In short, if you pass through the neighborhoods of lower Manhattan (which you will surely pass because they are essential), make sure to have lunch or dinner at this local place, you will not be disappointed!. It is informal, so it is appropriate at any time. And at night I was told that the atmosphere is great. Highly recommended. I wish there were more places like that in my city.
