Sweet Waters
At kilometer 263 of Route 9 on the Atlantic coast of Uruguay is the freshwater spa of Aguas Dulces. Created in the nineteenth century, it is surrounded by huge dunes, small lakes and wetlands. The name Sweet Water is said to come from the freshwater springs that were discovered in various parts of the area and that were used to replenish water vessels afloat this part of the Atlantic Ocean during times of conquest. Urban Legends and remains of wrecked ships that sailed to these shores of the Atlantic are part of the attraction and magic of the spa. It´s was declared a National interest in 1999.
