One of the oldest cathedrals in Europe

The cathedral Sveti Tripun (San Tripun) in Kotor is in the center of the fortified medieval city. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A rich noble of the city ordered a smaller church, in honor of a saint who lived in the 3rd century, to be built in the 9th century. San Tripun was killed by the Romans, and the church remains were found after an earthquake damaged the current church in the 1970s. This cathedral was built in 1166, and is still there, even after several earthquakes. It's now decorated in baroque revival style and mostly known for what's inside. The treasure includes swords, crosses, embossed icons, and many things made from gold and silver.

It is one of the oldest cathedrals in Europe. The frescos inside are from the 14th century, and on the main altar you can admire scenes from the life of St. Tripun, who was also the protector of Kotor. San Tripun day is one of the biggest parties in town, and in the region of Boka. This celebration has been held since the 9th century. It celebrates the date when the saint's remains were brought to Kotor.
