Street and Puerta del Sol

Sun Street is full of street of shops and is the liveliest street in the city. It is part of the Market Square and heads towards Puerta del Sol. It is a monumental work of Renaissance architecture. An unusaul thing about it is that it has a precise angle for orientation toward the sunrise, therefore getting as much sunlight as possible. Calle del Sol is crowned by an image of the Virgen de la Estrella in its niche. As is the case of other city gates, it has the shield of the Catholic Kings sculpted on it and beside those of Plasencia. The inside has a niche in which there is a terracotta image
