Statue of Torquato Tasso

The statue of the writer is located in the old town square, behind one of the arches of the Palazzo della Ragione. It was created by the sculptor Vicenzo Vela. The city is closely linked to the poet, although in fact Tasso only visited twice in his life, the first time when he was just twelve years old, and he stayed for seven months. Later he returned in 1587. He only stayed four months, but it was an intense period of work for him, during which he completed many of his finest poems.
