Mariblanca, allegory of faith?

As you may already know, Madrid is being quickly renovated, and several streets, buildings and monuments are being adapted to these new changes. For instance, the Oso y el Madroño statue (Spanish for 'the Bear and the Tree Strawberry') has been moved to the entrance of Alcalá street.

However, the Puerta del Sol has a new acquisition and a new face that will soon be familiar to locals: the statue of Mariblanca. It is said it may be a representation of Diana, Venus or an allegory of faith. The statue is a replica that dominated the Puerta del Sol in the mid-19th-century.

Do you know why is it called Mariblanca? It is due to a popular term that refers to the white color of its marble.

Interesting and obvious at the same time, right? So… we have a new friend in the center of Madrid, the Mariblanca. It now lies right at the entrance of Arenal street.

Mariblanca

Mariblanca

After several trips to Madrid, including this statue has been with the sources of the Paseo de la Castellana, the Mariblanca has returned to the Puerta del Sol are already 400 years what has this statue and its name comes from the white of marble that was originally sculpted. Seated at any point of the square, if you have seen the start of the opera Street, you will see how this statue rises that goes unnoticed to many passersby. The truth is that being so high you can not appreciate good and not really agree with the location because it seems that is not cluttered or when you go out there for the amount of people that usually found in the area. In ancient times you have to go to see this statue in the fountain of the Puerta del Sol, in the top, you can still see if you look at the poster of the Puerta del Sol

The Statue of Mariblanca was acquired...

Pobrecilla... ¡qué mareo!
