Statue of Peace

Di stile neoclassico, questa scultura rappresenta la Pace in trono, attorniata dai simboli della guerra. Per ammirarla è consigliabile ruotarci attorno: solo così infatti si può apprezzare del tutto la plasticità di questa scultura. La Statua della Pace è stata realizzata dello scultore Giovan Battista Comolli e posta sul basamento realizzato dall'architetto Valentino Presani. Si trova sul terrapiano di piazza Libertà, dove comincia la salita verso il Castello. Questa statua fu commissionata da Napoleone, perché ricordasse il famoso trattato firmato a Campoformido nel 1797. Ma in realtà fu inaugurata soltanto nel 1819, donata da Francesco I d'Austria alla città.

For a visit is recommended ruotarci around: in fact the only way you can fully appreciate the plasticity of this sculpture. The Statue of Peace was made by the sculptor Giovan Battista Comolli and placed on the pedestal designed by architect Valentino Presani. It is located on terrapiano of Freedom Square, where he began the climb up to the castle. This statue was commissioned by Napoleon, because he remembered the famous treaty signed in Campoformido in 1797. But in reality it was only inaugurated in 1819, donated by Francis I of Austria to the city.
