Statue of Kinzica

In via San martino tra i numeri civici 19 e 21, sulla facciata di Casa Tizzoni, è collocata una statuetta romana, precisamente un bassorilievo proveniente da un sarcofago del III secolo d.c. e raffigurante una matrona. Al suo ritrovamento è stato effettuato un restauro del volto e successivamente si decise di dedicare la statua alla nobildonna Kinzica De’ Sismondi. La leggenda narra che attorno agli anni 1000 una bellissima e coraggiosa ragazza di nobili origini abbia salvato Pisa da un attacco notturno dei saraceni svegliando le guardie, cosicché fossero preparati a difendersi senza essere presi di sopresa. La giovane avvistò i fuochi delle truppe nemiche dall'alto della sua casa torre e avvisò prontamente i Consoli che facero suonare le campane della Torre del palazzo degli Anziani. Ci sono molte versioni diverse di questa leggenda e l'unica cosa sicura è che la Famiglia De' Sismondi è esistita davvero. Mentre anche la figura stessa di Kinzica si perde nei misteri del passato. Il nome Kinzica viene sempre più spesso dato alle bambine pisane, ma anche a bambine di persone che sono venute a conoscenza di questa leggenda e ne sono rimasti affascinati.

Oggi a Pisa si trova un quartiere dedicato a kinzica che a sua volta era il quartiere di San Martino ma oggi dedicato a questa eroina intrepida che riuscì come leggenda vuole a fermare l'attacco dal terribile pirata musulmano Mogehid (Musetto).
