Staedel Museum

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this magnificent city art gallery possesses works by Caravaggio, Botticelli, Raphael and Munch. The Städel houses one of the oldest and most important art collections in the world. Since its founding in 1815 by Johann Friedrich Städel, the Arts Centre and Civic Gallery Städel has grown to a collection of approximately 2,700 paintings, 600 sculptures and 100,000 engravings. It invites on a journey through the ages and artistic panoramas of Europe from 700 years ago. Renaissance Italian paintings, German, Dutch, Baroque, French Impressionists and even contemporary art are on display in this beautiful building.
