The Longest Day
Sainte Mere l'Eglise is one of the many villages in Normandy which remembers the days of the famous battle. In this town, if anyone has seen the movie "The Longest Day", a classic you will know, where an American parachute company landed and all were killed but one, John Steele, who stayed in the tower and pretended to be dead. In the tower of the church is a parachute memorial. It was also the first town liberated Americans and there is a milestone that marks this. For those who like to touch and feel the history, this is a good start for the route through Normandy.
