1 review of St. Mary's Collegiata Church

St. Mary's Collegiata Church

Excellent

Gorgeous collegiate where according to legend the remains of Martha (patroness of hospitality), sister of Lazarus and Mary Magdalene. Martha moves to Tarascon and becomes the patron of the city when he saves the inhabitants of the dreaded "Tarasque", a beast like dragon that lived in the Rhone and frightened villagers. It's funny how all the southern part of this province keeps alive the legend of the landing of Mary Magdalene and her entourage when escaping from Egypt reach the shores of ancient Occitania. While traveling around, I have run into several people that tell this story because it relates to the Cathars or because it relates to Mary Magdalene, etc, etc, curious very curious.
