St John The Evangelist's Church

2 reviews of St John The Evangelist's Church

Finest collections of stained glass

It's a beautiful church located in the center of Edinburgh that brings together one of the finest collections of stained glass in Scotland, that were restored in 1985.

It was designed by William Burn, one of the major architects of the time. It was built in 1818 with a gothic style, although the choir and the chancel are from 1882 and the chapel is from 1935. The congregation of St. John belongs to the Scottish Episcopal Church and they have their own bishops and clergy.

Inside there is a plaster ceiling inspired by the chapel of King Henry VII in Westminster Abbey in London.
