St. James’s Piccadilly

Excellent

This Anglican church belongs to the Diocese of London. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1672 and built on land donated by Henry Jermyn. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of London in 1634 according to the sign located at the entrance. Barrel vaulted has in three galleries with Corinthian columns and pilasters which were badly damaged during World War II. Inside the highlights are linden wood carvings of the altar and the marble fountain located in the courtyard, the work of Grinling Gibbons a sculptor and woodcarver Englishman born in 1648. The church is really very nice, simple and has very good light.

It is open Monday to Sunday from 8.30 am to 18 pm. The Eucharist is celebrated on Sundays at 9:15 and 11:00 am., During the week on Tuesdays at 1305 and Thursdays at 8:30 pm.
