St George’s Square

3 reviews of St George’s Square

The institutional square

Excellent

St. George's Square is the heart of Valletta, both geographically, and in terms of the institutions you can see here. It is right in the centre of the city, in an area that has been recently pedestrianised, and is surrounded by numerous buildings, old and modern. There's free wifi, and plenty of benches where you can sit down. On the right is the presidential palace (the entrance to the public is on the opposite side), and on the opposite side of the square are the Main Guard and the Chancellery.

Palace vs Cultural Institute

Palacio vs Instituto Cultural

A walk through Valletta without departing in any time of Republic Street line has to pass or yes by Piazza San Gorg. This spacious Agora serves as a meeting point for tourists and foreigners, specifically among tourists who will visit the Palace and State Roms, and locals who flock to the Italian Cultural Institute. Both buildings will find elegantly faced here. In the center a large fountain serves as a mirror if the weather permits. There is a complex structure, in fact jets are barely leaving the ground, but the kids love summer (because they can run around between them) and the buildings are beautiful to look at her. Two smaller and classical sources flank the sides of the Institute. San Gorg is also a place of relaxation in the middle of the city. The square has many banks, some very modern, which allow to sit and watch time pass without concern. If desired you can also sit in a coffee shop (next to the first side you have the source Palace on your right). It has curious parks bikes (bikes seem docks!) And walking dogs is allowed.

Palace Square

Place du Palais

Excellent
It is called "Palace Square" or Place Saint Georges since the King of England, George VI, dcern Malta Cross of St George for the resistance during the Second World War. The south side is entirely occupied by the facade of the Palace of the Grand Matres. In front, a curious edifice with Greek columns. For Christmas 2014, a gloved representation of the crib were seated. I especially appreciates the side of the square with an old facade and bay windows, and also the two Baroque fountains on either side of the "south length". No trade disturbs the front of Presidential Palace.
