A peaceful, mystical place
According to tradition, St. David, the patron saint of Wales, was born in St Non's, about 1 km from the place where his cathedral stands today. He built a monastery in the sixth century on this site, which is located on the River Alun. Building work started on the cathedral in 1115, making it one of the oldest in the UK. It is still used, and is a peaceful, mystical place. Not far from the cathedral you can see the ruins of the episcopal palace, which was built at the same time, but was only completed in the fourteenth century.
