Sergels Torg

7 reviews of Sergels Torg

A lively place

It's more beautiful by night, with its light and attractions (one day a jazz concert, the next a protest for Tibet with lights and songs), but it's livelier during the day. This is one of the nerve centres of the Swedish capital; in the square you'll find the theatre, the headquarters of the Swedish bank, shopping centres, a supermarket, the Centro Metral Station and some traders' galleries. It is named after Johan Sergel, a sculptor whose studio once stood in the square. In the centre is a pedestrian area where people go to eat before going shopping. The central monument is a glass obelisk, which lights up at night.

It was built in 1962 after a competition, and is 37m high. It's called Crystal, and is made from glass and steel. It was quite controversial when it opened; not all the citizens like it.

The large square in Stockholm

La grande place de Stockholm

Excellent

Today this place is a great popular gathering place, many events are held during the year.

A very busy area during the day, full of life and shops. At night is another matter, since the majority of shops close at 7 or 8 pm and charm decays. An ace is worth seeing, especially its large glass obelisk lights at nightfall.

Central square of Stockholm

Piazza centrale di Stoccolma

Excellent
Stockholm Central Square through which we have access to the T-centralen underground station, also a major hub for public transportation, many people always! Very comfortable the fact that you can cross it all under the ground! (When it rains above all a godsend)

Here is the house of culture in Stockholm.

Here is the house of culture in Stockholm and where the people of Stockholm start and put on demonstrations against injustice. Usually there is a small group of protests there and in 2017 it was full of construction works, it is more like a passing area when you go to another place, by metro or bus.

Prettier at night with its lights and...

Prettier at night with its lights and attractions (now a demonstration for free Tibet with lights and songs yesterday a concert jazz ...), but the busiest day, Sergels Torg, instead of Sergel is one of the nerve centers of the Swedish capital. It is the home of culture, theater of the city, the headquarters of the Bank of Sweden, malls, supermarket, the central metro station and shopping malls below instead. The name comes from the sculptor Johan Sergel, whose workshop was on the spot, now the main square of the modern city. In the middle, there is a pedestrian zone, where people gather and then go on a shopping spree or eating in restaurants around the square, which is hardly accessible to cars. In the central monument is an obelisk glass that lights the night, giving the boutique shopping area a bit deserted. The obelisk was built in 1962 following a contest, it measures 37 meters high and the work is called Crystal, vertical accent in glass and steel. This is a controversial monument that does not appeal to everyone.
