Piazza della Rotonda

This is one of the busiest squares in Rome because it houses the Pantheon, a circular temple known by the nickname of "La Rotonda" (hence the name). The square was built during the reign of Pope Clement XI in the 16th century. It is usually quite lively and there are several bars with terraces where you can enjoy a drink.

You can’t miss it

This square is the perfect backdrop for the Pantheon. It was built in the 16th century by Clement XI who demolished many of the surrounding old houses and restored the central fountain. The square's centerpiece is a massive obelisk decorated with the Papal arms and dolphins.

The square is one of the busiest in Rome, no surprise really given the enchanting beauty of the illuminated temple in the background. It's the perfect end to an "artistic" tour of Rome.

Mandatory visit in Rome

The Rotunda is the home one of Rome’s most important monuments: the Pantheon. It's in the center of Rome always full of activity, movement, and tourists on their way to visit the marvels of this ancient city.

Besides the majestic Pantheon, the Piazza della Rontonda has another impressive monument: a huge 16th-century obelisk built by Bernini for Pope Clement XI. The obelisk is still in great shape and the decorative details of coats of arms and aquatic animals are in great condition. This obelisk is located right in the center of the square and adds a solemn touch.
