Split: the biggest port on the Dalmation coast

The Roman emperor Diocletian passed to posterity as a reformer of the empire and the lavish palace that he constructed in Split, currently the biggest port on the Dalmatian coast. Diocletian was buried there in the year 313, after that the palace) had different uses and owners. It's hard to explain the feeling comes deep from the old city. The streets and the walls are marble and shine at night. As a huge white ruffle, there are areas of the palace, taken for centuries, and today are still inhabited. Over 2 millennia there have opened rich Venetian and Byzantine windows and small windows which today hang laundry.

One place is the nerve of Split: Dioclesano Mausoleum. They usually have improvised concerts with Dalmatian songs. Another is the port from where ferries leave for Dubrovnik, to Italy, and to the paradise islands of Hvar and Korcula. I prefer the picturesque market and 'konobas' taverns where Croats come together to eat fried fish with white wine.
