Island Lights
As its name suggests, Block Island’s Southeast Light is perched high above the waves on the island’s southeastern shore. The building houses a museum and gift shop, and the tower is open for tours in the summer. But it’s worth the beautiful half-hour walk or quick drive from the Old Harbor area just to see the exterior of this brick Victorian lighthouse, often named as one of New England’s prettiest. Buy a snack at the Southeast Light Delight food truck and relax on the grounds that overlook the gorgeous coastline.
If you want more, there’s another lighthouse at Block Island’s northern end.
The North Light is equally charming, resembling a small granite church, but less accessible. Getting there requires a roughly 20-minute along the beach, ensuring fewer crowds. The North Light is also open during the summer season.
