1 review of Soti Khola

Day 1 Manaslu Trek. The walk from Arughat to Soti Khola takes all morning.

The trail is along a dusty, dirt road passable by jeep, tractor and perhaps a bus. However it is clear that it is not an easy drive and accidents do happen. The great thing about trekking in Nepal is there are plenty of opportunities for a tea stop. We stop in Arkhet Bazaar where a football match is underway on the only piece of flat land, a piece of sand beside the river. The football match is accompanied by a sound system pumping out Nepalese pop.

The climb to Soti Khola is only a couple of hundred meters. At this height (around 700m) rice is the primary crop grown around the villages and the harvest is underway. We arrive in Soti Khola in time for lunch and our first taste of the delicious Nepalese potatoes.

In the afternoon we take a cooling bath at the confluence of the Soti Khola and Budhi Gandaki rivers. It is only later in the trek that we realize how luxurious it is to bathe in this way. The Nepalese are building a road to the Tibet border and Soti Khola is the point where building materials are currently being transferred from lorries to mules.

So the town was filled with mules relaxing before their next heavily laden journey up the valley.
