National Park Sierra de la Jaws
The National Park Sierra de las Jaws is in St. Louis and it is not the best known of Argentina but worth doing. It covers an area of 150,000 ha. It was once inhabited by the Indians Huarpe. It has been proven that pterosaurs or flying reptiles existed there 100 million years ago, and there are dinosaur footprints. 300 million years ago when this place started to settle it was a large lake. The formations we see today are the result of wind erosion over the last 100 million years. The mountains offer a stunning landscape layered walls with numerous reddish tones. The walking paths allow transit for three different paths: - Viewpoints: The most simple and allows a panoramic view of the site for people who can not walk far.
- Path Dinosaur Footprint: A Medium ride three hours. - Path of the Farallones: It is about five hours, and this trail is the hardest. We did it during the summer and the heat was unbearable. However, the viewpoint coming down are incredible and so make it all worthwhile. Keep in mind that the last two paths have to be done with a guide.
