Shanglin Hostel in a tradiional Beijing building
The hostel is Shanglin Hostel situated in Hutong close to Tiananmen Square, in the heart of of Beijing. Shanglin Hostel is an old building, a traditional Beijing hutong. The inside patio is nice and makes you feel as if you are in another era. The hostel has a room with many PCs connected to the Internet, available for free for guests. These PC's do not work very well. There is free wifi in public zones. There is a very nice lounge with a TV and a small area to lie down and have long conversations. There is also a Playstation, meals are served at reasonable prices. The menu is not varied. They have laundry for 10 Yuan (not cheap, more than in other hostels).
Bike rentals for 20 yuan per day, but there are places where the price is half. All rooms in the Shanglin Hostel have air conditioning. Advisable to give a general overview of the rooms (a paint) and the bathrooms, which are somewhat old. The bedrooms have bunk beds with mattress. The 8 bed dorm with bathroom and the price is 50 yuan per person. The 4 bed dorms have no bathroom and the price is only 35 yuan per person. Double rooms with bath cost between 120 and 200 yuan and normal mattress beds have. Double rooms are cheaper on the roof, where you can admire the view across the hutong. The best way to get to Shanglin Hostel is to take the subway in Beijing (Beijing) to Hepingmen stops (preferred) or Qian Men. Along aa latter's metro stops for many buses, so this mode of transport is also suitable. From either 2 stops you arrive at the hostel after walking about 10 minutes. In Hostel offer a map with directions to help get there. CONCLUSION This hostel is interesting if you want to opt for the 4 bed dorms or if you want to be located near Tiananmen and in a quiet place. The living room is usually not very crowded and you can enjoy a movie lying "to the paunch".
