Senegalese Savannah

Senegal no cuenta con una excesiva zona de sabana, aunque si que forma parte de un territorio denominado Sahel que cruza África de este a oeste a lo largo de varios países. Con un 4x4 -suele haber tours organizados- tendremos la oportunidad de adentrarnos en el Senagal más profundo. No os esperéis selvas ni bosques como en los safaris de la televisión. Aquí todo es mucho más árido, con abundancia de acacias y animales de ganadería pastando por todos lados. La zona es muy curiosa, ya que uno, de repente, se mete en medio de la nada, sin casas edificios, carreteras... no hay nada. Pero de vez en cuando van surgiendo pequeños poblados con casas hechas de ramas, cabañas en medio de la nada con la única sombra de un baobab y cosas similares. Y esta es otra forma de vida. Muchos son nómadas, siguen yendo y viniendo de un lugar a otro con sus ganados para asentarse en otro sitio mejor. No es extraño encontrarse poblados con un jefe junto a sus siete mujeres y diez o doce niños correteando alrededor como los más felices del mundo, sin ni siquiera saber que hay más fuera de allí, pues no tienen nada para conocerlo. Desde muy niños se dedican a las tareas del campo, a llevar el rebaño a pastar y a cuidar el poblado. No conocen otra cosa y es bastante curioso verlo. En cuanto un extranjero, blanco sobre todo, aparece, se abalanzan sobre él y no hacen más que perdirle regalos o que juegue con él al fútbol con una pelota hecha de hojas de árboles y resina. Es otro mundo, un lugar que muchos creen no existen o no quieren creerlo. Si bien es cierto, muchos de los tours que se organizan son tan cutres como que pagan a unos tipos para que monten el circo en medio de la sabana, pero se distingue cuál es auténtico. No os apuntéis al primero que veáis, mirad bien y decidles claramente que no queréis un poblado “comprado”, que queréis ver la realidad, que para ir al teatro ya lo hacéis en otro lado. En cuanto a la fauna y flora, lo abundante son acacias, arbustos y baobas, mientras que también hay vacas, lemures y otros mamíferos que cuidan para alimentarse. Son auténticos supervivientes de la vida y el lugar merece la pena, aunque sólo sea por conocer una forma de vida no distinta, totalmente distinta.
