Sedella: Mudejar Essence
In 1569, the family of Andres Xorairán decided to stay when the feared armies of the Catholic kings conquered the remaining lands of Al-Andalus as Boabdil. He decided to stay because they had ties to the land and the people. They trusted the kings, as they had promised to respect their customs as long as they were baptized (by faith or by force), but the reality was quite different. 1567 saw the publication of the Royal Pragmatic of Philip II, sponsored by Pedro de Deza, under which the Moors were forbidden to bear arms, speak and write in their language, wear their own clothes and practice their customs.
