The wooden stairs

When you leave Cetati Square, the centre of the beautiful medieval town of Sighisoara, in the direction of the hill, you find this strange construction. It's entirely built of wooden stairs. Known as Scolii Scara, the school staircase, it allows you to climb the hill, where the local school stood previously. The staircase dates from 1642, and was an initiative of the elementary school teacher, who saw their poor students get all wet and cold during the winter on their way to school.
