Spectacular landscape

Sartene is one of the most beautiful cities in Corsica and also one of the most traditional and Corsican culture. It is located about 50 kilometers from Bonifacio, on the highest part of the valley Rizzanese. The beautiful landscape surrounding, highlights some beautiful mountains full of vegetation, making the locality even more beautiful. Furthermore, from the top of Sartene the sea looms below, so it is impossible to experience more beauty in a single view. Sartene is typical of the island and, although each year thousands of tourists come here, it retains all Corsican tradition and culture, as if time had not passed.

Numerous super-narrow alleys that lead unexpectedly wonderful places. It is protected with a huge granite walls that make the city look completely disconnected to the rest of civilization. The moment you walk through the walls you find the most attractive streets with amazing slopes, high stone houses seem to have been built to withstand any invasion. The most beautiful part of this city is seen by strolling around the old town, up and down hills and hundreds of steps, but there are several buildings worth visiting such as the church of Santa Maria, located in the Liberation Square and has excellent polychrome marble altar. Next to this church is the town hall, a XVI century building was formerly the palace of the Genoese lieutenants. Unmissable are the amazing and wonderful views that can be enjoyed from the top of Sartene, from the Watchtower. To reach it you have to get away from the city center through a safe path that is full of beautiful stone houses with a great history and vegetation. The views are amazing, perfect for all the people surrounded by mountains, trees, plants, rivers, flowers and as backdrop, the sea. Truly wonderful. The people are quite traditional, Corsicans retain many customs. For example, in this town there is a ancient religious procession called the Catenacciu. In it, a barefoot penitent anonymous, completely covered with red robes and hood, carrying a giant cross through the city with heavy chains attached to the feet. The event is very striking and very famous in the island, held at the time of Easter.
