Idyllic
We decided to take a last minute trip to Menorca because we found a very cheap bungalow on the internet. When we called, we found out that there had been a last-minute cancellation and that was why the room was going for so cheap. So, we booked the room, got ferry tickets, loaded up the car, and off we went!
The bungalow was on the beach of S'Arenal d'en Castell, literally right on the sand. There is perhaps no place as idyllic and remote in all of Menorca and it was a very good stay. The beach is wonderful and has fine white sand and clear turquoise waters. The beach could have been less-crowded but you can’t expect too much in Menorca in August.
S’Arenal d’en Castell is a tourist hotspot on Menorca’s northern coast in the municipality of Es Mercadal. There are some hotels, tourist apartments, and family homes, and you have all the necessary services for a nice, relaxing vacation at the sea: water sports, shops, restaurants, pubs, and even a nightclub if I remember correctly.
The beach is about 650 long and has shallow, transparent waters surrounded by buildings. It’s a horseshoe-shaped bay and there really aren't any waves to speak of, just a large natural saltwater swimming pool.
