You'll want to visit again

Santoña is a small village in the west of Cantabria. For me, it’s the perfect balance between city and town, because it has the comforts of a city and the tranquility of a town.

The festive atmosphere is great but never overwhelming. There are two nearby beaches, one close to the town (San Martín) and the other one is 2 km away (Berria). There is a pretty promenade and the sunset is incredible. It has two forts in the mountains, and two lighthouses which are worth visiting.

It’s quite a touristic town, and there is a good atmosphere in the summertime. I recommend this town. If

Famous Anchovies

This is a seaside town on the western coast of Cantabria that has a beautiful bay which is fed by the Limpias and Rada estuaries, as well as from numerous canals.

One of Cantabria’s best-preserved wetlands is in the area. Santoña is famous for its fishing industry and anchovies in particular. It became important in the 19th century and remains one of the main ports in Cantabria.

From a patrimonial point of view, it has houses and palaces like that of the Marquis of Chiloeches (currently undergoing restoration) or the institute of the Marquis of Manzanedo that are worth a visit.

Beautiful Port

Santoña is a municipality located in the western area of Cantabria, 48 km from Santander and surrounded by the Cantabrian Sea. It has an important fishing port and the richness of its waters make it a place perfect for the preserved food industry.

You will have to buy cans of bonito, so much better than the one they sell in supermarkets. The sunset is beautiful, a real spectacle. The marshlands of Santoña, next to the Victoria and Joyel ones, form a Natural Reserve.
