Baluarte de Santiago

This is another Badajoz fortification built in the seventeenth century as a result of the wars bewteen Spain and Portugal. Inside you'll find a memorial obelisk to General Menacho, who died heroically defending the city from the French troops. In the surrounding area, there is a subterranean parking lot also called Menacho. The city's other bastions are: La Trinidad, San Vicente, San Jose and San Roque.
