Comfortable, but not ideally located
I stayed here for four days in 2010 with my husband. The main advantages of this hotel we found were:
1) Cleaning. Not just the room, but also the reception, cafe and other public areas.
2) Price - very economical, especially when compared with the most central hotels. The accommodation includes breakfast, which is simple but with fresh juice, coffee or hot chocolate, and croissants, toast and pastries to choose from.
3) The staff are helpful and friendly, and will over help with information about the city, bus schedules, etc.
4) Free parking for customers.
5) There a computer from which you can access free internet in reception and wi-fi in the cafe and reception.
7) The room we stayed in was simple but charming, with pine furniture: a bed, a desk, a fairly wide wardrobe and two bedside tables. The mattress was quite new and hard, just the way I like it. It also had a chair and TV. The window overlooked a forest outside the hotel. The bathroom is a bit small, but very clean. In addition, the sheets and towels are changed everyday, and there was a basket with shower caps, shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.
8) The cafe where breakfast is served is quite large, with a large bar and plenty of tables. It has large windows overlooking the main road, and plenty of natural light. You can have a snack or light meal at almost any time.
But despite its many advantages, the Hotel Santa Lucia is far from the historic centre of Santiago. If you're walking it will take at least half an hour, down a major thoroughfare with plenty of traffic (about 3 km). This problem is solved by the P3 minibus which stops at the door of the hotel and will take you downtown to the Plaza Galicia for 90 cents. A taxi to the centre of Santiago is about 10 euros, and by car or taxi, the journey takes about five minutes. To get back, the bus stop is across the road, and the zebra crossing is a little bit out of the way. The TV is very small, as always in these cases, but it worked great. Furthermore, as the hotel is on the very edge of the N-525, it can be a bit noisy if you're a light sleeper,, even though the window is of good quality and close to perfection. In short, I think a 100% recommended hotel for those looking for cleanliness and functionality, but not for those looking for central accommodation.
