Sandino Port
The town of Puerto Sandino with its magnificent beaches, was called Puerto Somoza before the revolution. After the revolution the town had an influx of immigrants from different parts of the Caribbean. Today Creole can be heard as well as Miskito (the indigenous language, which is very difficult to understand). The beach is bathed by a calm sea. Swim (or, at low tide, walk) to the small island of black sand from which you have a breathtaking view of the beach. Needless to say, the food is delicious, the seafood very fresh and rum is drunk everywhere. What a paradise they say.
