A beautiful chapel
The Sanctuary Barquera is popularly known as "The Chapel" and is just outside San Vicente, toward the breakwater and Puntasilla lighthouse. It's on a promontory from which there are magnificent views of the sea, beach and town, and it is surrounded by a well kept garden area. Built in stone in the XV century, the entrance is protected by a portico with arches, the exterior is great but the interior of the is not so (as a hostel is attached on the back). It is always open (although sometimes you can not enter because it has a gate) and it houses an image of the patron saint of the town: La Virgen de la Barquera, in whose honor we celebrate the feast of La Folia on Easter Tuesday.
The church is always very busy because there is great devotion, boats passing in front of it sound their sirens in salute for protection. It's a beautiful chapel that is worth a visit, especially for its environment.
