Baluarte de San Vicente

This citadel is located opposite the bridge and the Puerta de Palmas, defending access to the fortified city of Badajoz from the Guadiana. Like the other defences, those of La Trinidad, San Roque, San Jose and Santiago, it was built in the seventeenth century, from stone, brick, concrete and limestone, with reinforced blocks at various points. Strangely, the School of Arts and Crafts, now a Polytechnic Institute, was constructed here in 1930.
