XIII century altar
The Church of San Stefano Rotondo was the 1st circular church to be built in Rome, around about 470. Initially the outer walls occupied more space, some windows and were circular and other cross-shaped, it had 8 entrances and is surrounded by granite and marble columns. The altar is XIII century. On every wall there are frescoes of Pomarancio of 1600 showing horrible tortures and beheadings. Visiting hours are 9.00-13.00 and 15.30-18.00.
