The first city hospital
The old hospital of San Sebastian is located in the city center, opposite the Church of San Juan Bautista and the Teatro Lopez de Ayala. It is a very large building (3,000 m2) which occupies the entire block; The facade is smooth, the only thing that draws attention is the sheer number of windows with wrought iron railings that the building has, as well as the access cover located on the side wall, made of marble, with a shield and an image of the Virgin Mary. This building is a former hospital where poor, elderly and terminally ill patients were looked after. It was the first hospital in the city, founded by Bishop Fray Pedro de Silva in 1694.
