San Pedro Attitlan and the food
San Pedro Atitlan is the village of Lake Atitlan. It is more authentic than Panajachel, but it isn´t only tourist that are here . Many people spend many weeks studying Spanish and volunteering at the many NGOs there. Since the storm Stan in the year 2005, the village needs volunteers, and if you're interested, just ask around the city where they need help. You can stay in the cheapest hostels in the country, starting at 1 euro a night! For 2 euros, you get hot water. Some families even have 3 or 4 rooms to rent, and there are weekly rates, some come with or without food, depending. The food in the village is good, both in the outdoor stands, or in restaurants, vegetarian restaurants opened by hippies, there are Italian restaurants, French restaurants that serve crepes, etc., as people who come to the village from abroad end up opening places serving their national food.
