An interesting history
This church is located opposite the Mercado de la Esperanza. It has an interesting history: it dates to before the year 1260, when it was a Franciscan convent. During the War of Independence it was used as troops' quarters and as a hospital, and later was occupied by an English battalion. Later, it became a school of arts and crafts, a post office, and even a cafe. It was demolished in 1936, and rebuilt in 1940, by architect Javier Gonzalez Riancho; finally, the present church was inaugurated in 1953. It is a neoclassical building. Inside there are several baroque-inspired altarpieces.
