The picturesque town of Salo is located in the middle of a beautiful Gulf and on the slopes of Mount San Bernardo. It is considered the capital of the upper area of Lake Garda. Salo is associated with the more recent history of Italy as Mussolini established the Italian Social Republic, also known as the Republic of Salò or Fascist Social Republic of Salo, here. Luckily Salo has broken away from its tumultuous past and today is a beautiful town predominantly focused on tourism, with many restaurants situated on the Lake, scattered throughout the vast lakeside promenade that runs along the placid shores of Garda .

If you are looking to relax in a natural alpine setting, there is nothing better than exploring the Alto Garda Natural Park, located in the vicinity of the town in which you will find places of incredible beauty. You may also be lucky enough to see deer, chamois, ibex, eagles and even, grouse. Salò is also perfect for hiking, windsurfing and sailing. For music lovers, this is the birthplace of Bertolottiho Gaspar, considered one of the inventors of the violin. His hometown often features concerts in honor of his distinguished son. If you want to enjoy the historical and artistic, Salo does not disappoint and you can admire the Duomo, the Palazzo del Podestà and the beautifully preserved old town. As you can see, I think Salo is well worth a visit.
