Saliste Fortified Church
A village an hour west of Sibiu. Like most of the villages of the region, it was founded by the Saxons, who came from Germany in the Middle Ages. In their villages they built fortified churches, which are now part of the UNESCO world heritage. The region was a large meadow and suffered many invasions and wars. When there was danger, the inhabitants took refuge in the church, protected by one, two, or even three defensive walls.
