The Oldest Degree-Granting Seminary in the US
The Music Vale Seminary was the first degree-granting music school in the United States. It was active from 1835 and stayed open until 1876. The Music Vale Seminary was started by Orramel Whittlesey. The Music Vale Seminary burned down in 1897 and was never rebuilt; however, you can find remains of the seminary on Music Vale Road in Salem.
