Saint-Pierre de Montmartre Church

5 reviews of Saint-Pierre de Montmartre Church

A truly important church for a Parisian

Saint Pierre is a church of 1400, a work of art and history. The best known, the Sacre Coeur, was never accepted by Parisians who called it the wedding cake, so, contemptuously. Montmartre is one of the places that I visit most and I always feel it is very special, I feel part of everything as if I had been born there. The thought of going up the hill Clichy, with pavements more than a thousand years, is like a party day for me! When I travel in any part of Paris (except pompidou) I have an incredible party in my soul! Do not miss St Pierre, but worth the visit thoughsomewhat abandoned. Hugs from Buenos Aires.

One of the Churches of the Camino de Santiago francs

The choir vaulted XII century, the ship was remodeled in the fifteenth century and the west front in the eighteenth century. During the French Revolution the Abbots were guillotined and the church fell into disuse being reconsecrated in 1908. Stained neogothic replace those resulting destroyed by a bomb in World War II. The Church also has a small cemetery that only opens on 1 November and is entered by a bronze door where you can see the Ascension of Jesus. Another thing to highlight notable St. Pierre is his beautiful bronze portal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being part of the churches of the Camino de Santiago French. The Church is open daily from 8.30 am to 19 pm.

This small Catholic church at the foot of the huge Sacred Heart is one of the oldest churches in Paris, and was built in the twelfth century and consecrated in 1147 by Pope Eugene III. It is the last vestige of the Royal Abbey of Montmartre, which was completely destroyed after the Revolution. If outside the church does not look even beautiful decorated with bas-reliefs, within easy door has charmed me most because of its stained glass windows. These were made by Maurice Max Ingrand in the middle of the twentieth century, so they are very fresh and colorful and make a nice contrast with their modernity with classicism places.

Located just steps from the street Norvins, real backbone of the Parisian neighborhood of Montmartre, at the junction with rue du Mont Cenis, the Church of St. Pierre de Montmartre is a very beautiful building not to be missed. Almost leaning against the Sacred Heart, the Church still deserves the attention here, if only to discover the beautiful iron gates, remarkable, and its white stone arches and beautiful stained glass windows.

The Church of ST.

The Church of ST. Pierre de Montmartre is known to be the oldest in Paris. It is located next to the Sacre Coeur and is a summary of the history of the district of Montmartre. ST. PIERRE was consecrated in 1147 and was part of the WOMEN Abbey of Montmartre. Abbesses came from families of rank, and their relationships ensured the prosperity of the abbey for several centuries. It ended with the Revolution of 1789, during which the last abbess was guillotined, the treasure disappeared and all the buildings were demolished except for this famous church full of history and mystery, the only exponent of the time.
